How This Works
Here's the dirty secret of field service software pricing: your monthly subscription is only half the bill. Almost every major platform also acts as a payment processor, and they mark up the processing rate above what their own processor (usually Stripe or a Stripe-equivalent) charges them.
A typical platform publishes a “2.9% + 30¢” transaction rate. That sounds like Stripe's base rate, so most contractors assume it's just pass-through. It's not. The actual processor charges the platform around 2.3%–2.6%, and the platform pockets the difference as pure margin.
